teresting. A traditional BaJi set (Da BaJi) performed in this style. Very similar to a Heaven Mountain version (Tian Shan Pai) we learned many years ago. Western Staff Style(28/30) Wave Banner Whet Flag Staff
It is a traditional folk’s staff. The content and structure of this staff is according to the example of ancients ' the gun inside the staff' and the form is based on the 55 strange gun picture. We combine the form of gun into the form of staff.
There are sets that truly look "folksy" and this is one of them. Not the most beautiful but to the practiced eye a form with a lot of information about the staff in it. It starts with the famous White Eyebrow upward spinning stick. The performer moves slowly and methodically. The performance gives the impression of movements learned from one's uncle. To our mind a nice stick set with a very traditional construction.

Western Staff Style Guide (29/30): 13 methods with Club
It is popular in the northwest of china, especially in Tianshui of the Province of Gansu. Because of its simple and practical, it has been hankered by the people who like wushu.
This VCD shows the staff as a weapon. Using a shorter, thiner stick - similar to a Jo - the teacher shows a series of exercises in short linking forms where eaach strike is quite direct and apparent. At its simplest level the work here resembles Aikido stick play. The whipping of the title is clearly demonstrated with a series of slashes and back slashes that could also be converted easily to cane defense. A more hands-on approach than a set for performance. Though applications are not shown they are pretty obvious.
